SIDNEY VS THE NEWTOWN WORKERS CLUB
Photojournalist/fashion writer Sam Sidney will curate the Blackbird markets, a new fixture to Melbourne’s calendar for the hip weekender. The platform: Music, fashion, food, vintage clothes and crafts all under one roof.
Blackbird Summer Market is held monthly at the Newtown Worker’s Club, corner of Brunswick St and Gertrude St, Fitzroy.
It has first date written all over it.This is how it may or may not go down for you.
B: You should come with me to the Blackbird Markets.
G: Oh wow, that sounds amazing, I’ve heard it’s really good.
B: Oh yes…it really is very good. The vintage clothes are to die for.
G: Really?
B: Yeah we can go there, look at the vintage clothes, sample some world food and cup cakes. Then walk down to Brunswick St towards the nearest park. Take-away lattes in hand, classic literature on tongues and love in our hearts. It will be a sunny day so when we get to the park we can lie side by side, share an ipod, and listen to Grizzly Bear.
G: Ohhh…that sounds so lovely.
B: Then we can fuck.
G: What?!
B: Nothing, nothing, markets, markets. We’ll go to the Blackbird markets. I’ll pick you up at 10am in my sky blue FJ Holden. We can eat eggs, toast and hollandaise sauce in some format before we go.
G: ah…ok
B: Great, see you then!
G: Actually no. No I can’t. I have netball, I totally spaced. Sorry I can’t go, I’m so sorry.
B: ah…k’. S-cool.
G: Hey don’t be down. I’ll call you when I finish netball. You can come over and watch me shower.
B: Good.
See you piglets at the market.
The first Blackbird Summer Market will be held on Saturday the 5th of December from 11AM to 4PM.
