SPOOK caught up with Katrina Noorbergen, the lead singer form The Cassette Kids on the set of their super awesome blow-your-tiny-mind new music video ‘Spin’ which is out TODAY and was directed by the amazing Krozm…
Spook – This all looks pretty incredible, can you tell us what’s going on in the clip?
Katrina – The reason we went with Krozm for this clip is because we wanted something really visually captivating and creative so they pitched us this idea of an alternative world with creatures and anti gravity with all these wild costumes.
Spook – We heard you had a bit to do with the costumes?
Katrina – I’ve always been interested in fashion and costumes so when I met Cassandra who did all the costumes for this clip It was really exciting because her work is just amazing and so we worked together and met up a few times to make sure we were on the same page. But we always have a lot to do with the production of our videos.
Spook – Is that a big part of the process for you?
Katrina – yeah, I love doing the videos and tying in the music with the visuals through fashion and production. I’m pretty obsessed with music videos. I don’t have a television at home so when I got to my boyfriend’s house he can barely drag me away from the music channel. It would be my dream to make a video to go with every single – to have that visual accompaniment really completes the process creatively.
Spook – Have you got a favourite video ?
Katrina – Radiohead, Street Spirit. It’s shot in black and white with that beautiful slow motion effect, it’s mesmerising.
Spook – We keep hearing that this album is really different from the last, how so?
Katrina – In the first album we were really organic and raw and punky, but this time we wrote with some amazing people like Paul Mac and Van She so it’s kind of a bigger, more electronic sound with a strong pop sensibility. But it’s not just a big shiny pop album though, we have got some darker songs on it.
Spook – What was touring with Lily Allen like?
Katrina – It was pretty crazy because we went straight from being locked in the studio to playing in front of 5000 people. We hadn’t played any shows for a long time because we had been writing and recording and we went straight from that to The Horton and tried out our new stuff, so it was pretty intense. But obviously, amazing.
“SPIN” is out today (29th Jan) with the full album “Nothing on T.V” set to follow latre this year.
