Politicians abandoned their prescious seats to gather on the steps and overlook their voters. Peak hour traffic was put on standby, streets blocked off, trams cancelled, business plans interrupted. Men and women in suits gathered at their office windows so that they could play witness to the history making event that took place in the political heart of Melbourne’s CBD.

The march took place on the streets of Melbourne to protest the laws that live music venues around Victoria have been slammed with in a goverment initiative to combat alcohol fuelled violence. But simply returning the laws to how they were before Brumby started toying with them wasn’t enough to reassure thousands of music lovers that the routes of Melbourne’s culture are truly acknowledged.
