I hate this city.com

Melbourne is a conflicted city. For some it’s amazing, for others not so. For this particular blogger it’s certainly not so. Why Melbourne Sucks was posted and received a pretty substantial following. For those who live in Melbourne, reading this is sort of like watching an episode of the Office. You live in Melbourne and may emphatically agree with some of the points raised, but feel squeamish when you realise that you probably aren’t the “Tim” character in this soap drama. You more likely the Dwight/Gareth wearing tight jeans.

Excerpts from angry civilians.

Shock, there are restaurants, cafes, galleries, clubs, bars etc in other cities. It’s just that other cities don’t constantly rant on and on about such things.
Melbourne offers little to look at. The city is flat, ugly, windy, always grey and cold, the sun comes out about twice a year and overall it is a mighty miserable town.

It’s the worst police states on the planet! Road laws that make Nazi Germany look like a laissez-faire liberal democracy, surveillance cameras by the squillion, and if you are lucky enough to actually get on a train or tram instead of driving, expect to be monstered by unaccountable goons checking tickets. Then there’s the fun police, ensuring that any significant event or sporting fixture is dry, or at best serves tepid quarter strength beer. Victoria is a nasty little unfriendly gulag at the arse end of the country. It has earned its new nickname –
ORWELLIA!

Artistic side of Melbourne, is a complete joke. Yeah the big record labels can be found here- but most of the talent are from places like Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. Back in Adelaide i used to love to go watch local gigs, no two bands sounded alike. Since I’ve been in Melbourne all the local bands are all the same, dreary, one note, talentless, rush jobs. I grew up in a music inclined family and I’m a musician myself…
