PINKENBA

Words: Sarah Pratt

You know when you find something a little unique, whether that be a cute little boutique hidden at the end of a laneway, a rooftop bar unseen from the street below, or a kebab joint so good, you’ll find the time to venture there outside the hours of 2 and 4 am. Well, Pinkenba is just like that kebab shop. Slightly different scent perhaps? It’s a hidden gem in a way, and when Andrea Jankovic stumbled across it, she thought the best way to uncover its beauty was to capture it with a 50mm lens. You see, we’re like pirates, we like hidden treasure. So if you know of any, send us an email to submissions@spookmag.com

WHO: Andrea Jankovic.
AGE: 25.
FROM: I live in Brisbane.
EXPERIENCE: I first picked up a camera in 2009 and started shooting live music, but I only really got into fashion this year.
JOB: I graduated from a Masters in Architecture at the end of 2010 and I work in an architecture firm 4 days a week.
WHERE: It was shot in Pinkenba. It’s really beautiful but it’s mostly just industrial land because it’s just next to the airport. The ‘mountains’ in the back are apparently old roads.
TIME: A few hours I think? Time flies when you’re having fun.
PEOPLE: The model was Keely from Viviens, make up was done by the amazing Joy Givinchy and my friend and designer Lisa Turnbull was the stylist. Lisa also made a video of the shoot.
CLOTHES: The pieces were a combination of Lisa’s (soon to be launched!) label Accordeons and vintage pieces.
CAMERA: It was all shot on a Canon 5d MkII and a 50mm lens.
WHY: There was no real purpose, Keely had just been signed to Viviens and was looking to build her portfolio and I had ‘discovered’ Pinkebba a few weeks earlier and was dying to shoot there.
FAVOURITE: None really, I think I like them best as a set.
