A SUGAR COATED HORIZON
Words: Katy Hall
Who doesn’t love America? And by love I mean also hate. You know, kind of in the way that you both love and hate your siblings, love and hate summer, love and hate alcohol. And so goes our relationship with the land of the free. We love them for giving us Coca Cola, hate them for their unwillingness to stitch up the mouths of bigots in the south; love them for giving us Monopoly, hate them for allowing the Kardashians to reach such great heights of fame; love them for their undeniable gigantic well of incredible musicians, hate them for the fact that it is so darned far away.
For its second year running, SUGAR MOUNTAIN Festival is bringing the latest and greatest alternative All Stars to the Forum Theatre for one date only. The wonderful likes of Deerhoof, Three oh Sees, tUnEyArDs, Sun Araw, Prince Rama, Shabazz Palaces, Julianna Barwick and John Maus will all be playing across various stages throughout the day. See, I was not getting overly excited about nothing like usual. This little independent collective has done one incredible job and it’s absolutely certain to be an unforgettable day. That is unless your love/hate relationship with alcohol rears its head…
There’s also local support from wonderkids Worlds End Press, Absolute Boys, Lost Animals and some pretty amazing visual displays as well.
Should you have been incredibly lazy and/or forgetful the aforementioned collective have been kind enough to offer up one double pass for free. All you need do is email info@spookmag.com with your name and identify your favourite American creation.
