Rock journalism began as a strictly commercial concept. Skin deep, entrepreneurial rags like Beatles Monthly and The Rolling Stones Book were purely vehicles for writers to gain capital from the tastes of screaming teenagers, and thus they remained as repetitious and unsubstantial as they were glossy and double underlined.
