LANEWAY 2012

HIPSTERS GALORE, LANEWAY FESTIVAL 2012

February 7, 2012

A day soaked in sweaty pits is one way to describe Saturday. But it was worth it, isn't it always? Oh Laneway, the things we do for you. It must be love. Highlights include: the man who called the tree his home for two hours - solid effort, Korean twisty fires - potentially the crowd favourite for the day, and of course the acts - SBTRKT you may have been late, but you were well worth the wait. You were all worth the wait. Oh Laneway, you're so special, you're different to the other festivals. How can we go a whole year without you? I guess we'll just have to look at these snaps from time to time and remember what was, and hope that when we meet again you haven't turned into an obnoxious twat of a festival. Oh Laneway, please never change. You're the one.

GOODBYE 2011 – FALLS FESTIVAL WRAP UP

January 2, 2012

The New Years hype is dying down, our hangovers are beginning to fade, people are starting to shower, and breakfast Jägerbombs doesn't quite have the same ring to it as it did two days ago. And with that, we start the annual avalanche of photos capturing New Years antics. A time when our friends were happy and life was simple. We treasure those moments. We will look at them time and time again wishing to go back. Yearning to laugh and be merry like we did on those days. If, however, you were too intoxicated or suffering from 'heat exhaustion' to remember such merriness let us help you with our Falls Festival wrap up. Enjoy!

SPOOK TEA PARTY

A SPOOK PARTY WITH A SPOT OF TEA

November 23, 2011

Another day, another successful SPOOK soiree. The other week SPOOK along with Shoreditch suits, held a lush warehouse tea party. For the folk who didn’t make it, gee whiz you missed out. So many well-fit geezers, we couldn’t believe our mince pies. The night was full of dancing and debauchery, and in true British style, (as was the theme of the evening) punters could even enjoy cider and pimms on the grass. A big cheerio to the Indian Summer DJ’s, Poncho Boys, Tomderson, Backyard DJ’s and Latch for getting us up off the grass for a kick and prance.

SPOOK USA PARTY

THE SPOOK PARTY THAT WAS

August 17, 2011

So the other week we had a bit of shindig to celebrate our American Edition, as well as the fact that SPOOK has now been available in hard copy for 2 wonderful years. Thank you to all who graced us with their presence, the lovely people at the Order of Melbourne, the fairy floss man and the hot dog lady. The night would not have been nearly as fun or delicious without you. The entertainment for the night came in the form of some of the raddest musicians this side of town, so a big thank you to Miami Horror (DJ Set), Indian Summer DJ's and Mildlife for belting out their dance worthy tunes until the early hours of the morning. Also, a huge thank you must go out to Jesse Maricic for documenting the evening's shenanigans, we hope you enjoy perusing the snaps as much as we have.

COSTUME PARTY

August 9, 2011

SPOOK must have missed the memo when it said that Splendour was going to be a dress up party. Yes we all know that music festivals have a long history of people chucking on their best novelty suits, but the Splendour patrons took it to a new level. Here are just a few, for your viewing pleasure.

AMY DID WHAT WITH MEREDITH?

May 17, 2011

Saturday night was a big night. Big line up. Big stage. Big crowd. The stage was set for Sydney band Amy Meredith. The night kicked off with a very boisterous and energetic set by Bridgemary Kiss and followed closely by Tonight Alive, but the star of the show was definitely Amy Meredith. When they hit the stage girls were screaming, guys were crying, everyone wanted a piece of the action.

PROWLING WITH GYPSIES

May 16, 2011

Alright, so the history of Gypsy and the Cat is, if anything, short. Not even our old friend Wiki could help us out that much. But what we DO know is that these Melbourne DJ's deserve a lot of praise considering what they have accomplished in a year. Their first performance was in London last year and they couldn't believe the hype that soon followed. This electro pop group gained popularity and fans on Triple J's unearthed, with regular airplay of such songs from their album 'Gilgamesh' like Jona Vark (No, it's  not Joan of Arc), The Piper Song and Time to Wander, which eventuated to them receiving a 'J' award nominee and two of their songs in the Hottest 100. We grabbed ourselves a media pass and decided to suss out their Palace Theatre gig and find out what the attraction was with Gypsy and the Cat. All the hype surrounding them has been justified.

Strange Talk NSC

STRANGE TALK WARM THE NSC

May 9, 2011

It was freakin’ freezing in Melbourne on Friday night! So social outings that eventuated in rising body temperatures were sorely welcomed! Lucky for us, The Northcote Social Club provided just that, as it was packed to the brim for Strange Talk’s EP tour. Eager punters warmed their fingers and toes, and any other body parts for that matter by surrendering their personal space to their fellow Strange Talk enthusiasts. The crowd even surprised lead vocalist Stephen Docker as he exclaimed ‘We had no idea it was gonna be this fucking big.’ Ah if only he saw the ‘SOLD OUT’ poster on the entrance’s door! It was a splendid evening indeed, and what a wonderful bunch of people (minus that one couple who decided to dry hump each other, as well as innocent bystanders) for Strange Talk to lose their first sell out gig virginity to, in fact the crowd were so darn lovely SPOOK decided to take a few snaps!

FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US

April 26, 2011

During the long weekend, hidden amongst the annual easter events like the Ripcurl Pro and Creamfields', SPOOK took an unorthodox approach to the religious holiday. 'Festivus for the Rest of Us', an alternative holiday created by Frank Costanza of Seinfeld, is for the rest of us who aren't too keen on praising the almighty for his sacrifices.

A HAZEY MEMORY FOR THE LAST TIME

April 3, 2011

Last Saturday night as the sun faded and lights flickered a very wrong group of all the right people came out to play. The venue; the soon to be demolished warehouse in Simmonds South Yarra.
